I, like many, have seen all of Charlie Kaufman's movies and read his scripts. When I saw the movie I thought, it's good but not his best. Then I read the script and must saythat I think this is in my top three best scripts I've ever read. I mean every scene has multiple layers to it and the comedic points in it are beyond just being clever. For anyone who likes to read entertaining, complex scripts this is a Must Read. And I'll being seeing the movie again to catch the things that I missed the first time.

Hello, I would like to give a counter review to the one above. This movie was simply awful! and I am a fan of some of his other movies, and I really think phillip seymour hoffman is a great actor. It's just that the movie was way too long and boring and empty! In the beginning it's innovative and comedic, but it soon becomes a horrible bore with no care for any of the characters, it's one big "life sucks and is pointless" statement. There were some interesting ideas for sure, but the movie became so dull and meaningless, all the people blended together to the point that you don't care about anyone or anything. There is no discovery, conclusion, overcoming anything or a revelation about life. It's just a load of garbage unless you like watching a stranger's pointless, frustrating, mundane life for 2+ hours only to leave disappointed without any resolution, then please avoid this movie and you will thank me.

I'm really sorry that all you got out of it. To say it was mundane and colorless and that the characters melded together sounds like you just tuned it out due to your own mood though. If you want to see Hoffman do mundane watch the one where he is a glue huffing rc airplane hobbyist. This in my opinion is anything but. Watch it on demand or on video for cheap pay attention and judge for yourself.

This movie is so complex and layered, I think it's quite fascinating. I don't find it mundane in the slightest (and it's not 2+ hours, the movie actually ends at exactly 2(;), there is always something to think about and focus on. The character of Caden can totally support such a movie because of how multifaceted he was created, even becoming a little Kafka-esque. This movie is a wonderful commentary about art, life, death, relationships. Everything imaginable.
